X-Series Adapters

Hardware
Adapters within the X-Series chain — EIB rails to X3 and X3SR headstages, EIB to M1P probe connectors, and jumpers and extensions between X3, X3SR and X6.

What they connect

  • EIB32 Rail — an EIB-32 to an X3 or X3SR headstage, in left, right, combo and SR rail variants.
  • EIB-to-M1P — EIB-16 or EIB-32 onto M1P-16 or M1P-32 probe connectors.
  • Jumper & Extension — X3, X3SR and X6 extensions, an X3-to-X6 jumper, and a 16-channel NeuroNexus-to-X3 jumper.
  • Connector Adapter — the general X-Series transition, 20 inputs against 18 outputs.

The failure this part causes

Two connectors that mate are not two connectors that agree. A remap adapter deliberately changes which pin carries which channel — that is what it is for — so the probe's site-to-channel map does not survive the adapter unchanged. Nothing about the physical fit tells you this has happened. The recording looks fine; the channel order is different from the one in your analysis script.

Confirm the site-to-channel map through the adapter before the first real recording. It is a five-minute check against a known signal, and it is the single most common reason a chain that plugs together produces a map that does not match the probe drawing.

Why they ship in packs

Rail and jumper adapters are available in quantities of 1, 5, 10, 16, 20, 25 and 50. That is not a volume discount so much as an acknowledgement of where they sit: at the headstage connection, where mating force is highest and where a damaged part stops an experiment. Labs running chronic cohorts buy them as consumables.
