An assembled probe is a probe + package — the package is the connector, cable, and housing that joins the probe shank to your headstage. It determines two things: how you handle and insert the probe (acute stereotaxic, chronic pedestal, surface grid), and which headstage system you connect to (Omnetics, ZIF, Hirose, Berg, and others). Choose once, correctly — the package defines your recording chain.
