Overview
The Vector Package (pkg_vec) provides a flexible polyimide cable assembly for the NeuroNexus Vector Series silicon probes. The Vector Series features a reinforced 30µm thick silicon substrate optimized for deep-brain chronic implantation in structures such as hippocampus, thalamus, basal ganglia, and amygdala — and the Vector Package's flexible cable ensures these long-term implants achieve stable recordings.
Design
- Connector: Omnetics nano-strip (18-pin or 36-pin depending on channel count)
- Cable: Thin flexible polyimide cable (reduces rigid coupling to headstage)
- Probe Compatibility: Vector Series (prb_vec) probes exclusively
- Shank Length: Compatible with 15mm+ Vector shanks for deep structures
Vector Series Characteristics
The Vector Series uses a thicker 30µm substrate versus the standard 15µm A-Series, providing greater mechanical stiffness for long insertions without buckling. The probe survives the forces required for deep hippocampal and thalamic targeting.
Use Cases
- Hippocampal Laminar Recording: Spanning CA1, CA3, DG, and subiculum in a single insertion
- Deep Brain Chronic Implants: Months of stable recording in thalamus, amygdala, VTA
- Multi-Area Circuits: Simultaneous cortical + hippocampal or hippocampal + septal recording
- Non-Human Primate Applications: Longer shanks for sulcal or deep structure access
