An Activus SiNAPS probe carrying an optical fibre — 256 or 1,024 channels of on-shank digitization with light delivered at the same sites.

The densest optogenetic configuration, and the most committed

A SiNAPS probe digitizes beneath every electrode, so the channel count is not limited by analog routing. Adding a fibre puts light at those same sites. At 256 or 1,024 channels this is the highest site count in the catalog that also delivers light.

It is also the least modular. Channel count, optical path and interface are all fixed at fabrication, and the probe runs only on the SiNAPS interface. There is no configuration to change afterwards — the implant has to be planned around the probe rather than assembled from parts.

Builds are low-profile in UV epoxy (OG116-31).

The shared constraint

Every optrode package puts a light path and a recording path on one implant. Two things follow, and they are true of all of them:

  • The fibre adds cross-section. Whatever the probe displaced on its own, it displaces more with a fibre alongside — along the whole trajectory, not just at the tip.
  • Light reaches the electrodes too. A photoelectric artifact at stimulus onset is a property of the geometry, not a fault; plan the analysis window around it rather than discovering it in the data.
