Fusion Package

Hardware
Assembly for Fusion double-sided probes routing signals from both recording faces to a single Omnetics connector.

Overview

The Fusion Package (pkg_fus) provides the connector assembly for NeuroNexus Fusion double-sided probes — the industry-first silicon probes with recording sites on both the front and back faces of each shank. A single package routes all electrical signals from both probe faces to one or two Omnetics nano-strip connectors.

Fusion Probe Technology

Fusion probes feature recording sites on opposite faces of the shank, enabling 360° sampling of neural tissue around a single insertion point. This doubles the spatial coverage per insertion compared to conventional single-sided probes.

Package Configurations

  • F32: 32 channels (16 per face), single Omnetics 36-pin connector
  • F64: 64 channels (32 per face), dual Omnetics connectors
  • FH64: 64-channel high-density variant with smaller footprint

Use Cases

  • Laminar Studies: Sample both sides of a cortical layer boundary simultaneously
  • Bilateral Recording: Equivalent of two single-sided probes in one insertion
  • Acute Experiments: Up to 50+ reuses with proper cleaning protocol (Tergazyme)
  • Dense Population Recording: More units per insertion reduces number of penetrations needed

Compatibility

Fusion Package probes connect to all DAQ systems supporting standard Omnetics nano-strip connectors. Dual-connector models require two amplifier channels; most modern headstages support this.
