A new NeuroNexus system has four things to settle before the first recording: the account, the software, the hardware chain, and a noise baseline. Do them in that order.
Research use only. NeuroNexus products and the procedures described here are for non-clinical research use, and must not be used in human or veterinary medical procedures.
1 — Create your account#
An account gives you order history, package documentation and channel maps for the probes you own. Those documents are what let you plan the next experiment, and they are tied to the probes rather than to the invoice.
2 — Install the software#
Radiens runs acquisition and analysis across NeuroNexus systems. Install it and confirm it starts before the hardware arrives. A driver problem is not something to discover on the day of a surgery.
See Welcome to Radiens.
3 — Verify the hardware chain#
Four things have to agree: probe package → headstage → DAQ → software.
Confirm each junction before the first session:
- The probe connector matches the headstage input, or you have the adapter and its channel map.
- The headstage bus matches the DAQ port.
- The DAQ appears in the software and reports the channel count you expect.
A mismatch found here is a purchase order. A mismatch found on surgery day is a lost animal.
4 — Record a noise baseline#
Before any experiment, record five to ten minutes with the system connected and no subject. Save the per-channel RMS noise and the power spectrum.
This is the measurement every later diagnosis is compared against. A rig without a baseline cannot tell a new noise source from one that was always there.
See Noise Reduction and Troubleshooting.
Then#
Set up the probe itself following Silicon Probe Setup. Then read the handling and cleaning practice that decides how long it lasts: NeuroNexus Probe Usage Tips.
Getting help#
Application scientists are scientists, and questions about the preparation are in scope, not just questions about the part number.
